Project Accountant

 

Job Description

 

• Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded

• Communicate with vendors regarding documentation, invoices and payment

• Update accounts receivable and issue invoices

• Post, process and update accounts payable and perform reconciliations. Analyze project costs and prepare reports

• Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines

• Assist with reviewing of expenses, project costs and bank records etc. as assigned

• Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed

• Prepare timely loan draws and conduct WIP review meetings with Project Managers

• Assist Controller in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings

• Make bank deposits, etc.

• Provide management with reports and assist with monthly draws request for lenders

• Maintain Cost Accounting System (Spectrum)

• Assist in tax filing including GST, WCB etc.

• Assist in documentation and administration

 

 

Requirements and qualifications

 

• Great learning skills, positive work attitude and team-oriented

• Minimum of 2 solid years of project Accounting preferably in the Real Estate industry or at an Accounting firm

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (ideally a CPA student)

• Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills in multi-project and multi-entity environment

• Excellent knowledge of MS Office, Outlook  and familiarity with relevant ERP software (e.g. Spectrum or Timberline)

• Experience working with project management, sales & marketing and other departments, as well as on development and analysis of cost standards

• Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports

• Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
